The WGJV is closely monitoring and proactively responding to Coronavirus (COVID-19) developments in Australia and Papua New Guinea, and is proactively implementing the controls requested by the Australian and Papua New Guinea government authorities, and by Newcrest Mining Limited and Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited.
The WGJV has implemented COVID-19 Risk Mitigation and Management Protocols to help reduce the risk of WGJV employees being exposed to or contracting COVID-19, and in the management of our sites should an employee contract COVID-19.
WGJV COVID-19 control measures include:
Employee health screening and health assessments for all employees including those who are authorised to travel between Australia and Papua New Guinea to Project sites for essential work
The WGJV has implemented international and provincial travel restrictions and controls
Self-quarantine applies to all employees who have travelled internationally for business or private purposes, including for employees who have been in contact with a person diagnosed with or suspected of having COVID-19
WGJV employees are not authorised to attend conference or similar events
Employees have and will continue to receive regular COVID-19 communication, education and training updates particularly on sanitation practices and what to do if they feel symptomatic or may have contracted COVID-19
The WGJV is assisting the Morobe Provincial Health Authority with education and awareness on COVID-19 in our project area communities as well as updating them on our current site practices in relation to COVID-19
WGJV personnel are working remotely where practicable, and travel restrictions have been implemented
Communications have been issued to all employees highlighting safe and hygienic practises to minimise spread of infection.
The WGJV will continue to engage with our key stakeholders – government, media, employees, communities and others – contributing to the exchange of reliable information related to the control of the spread of COVID-19 and in managing COVID-19 at our Project sites.
Should you suspect that you have the symptoms of COVID-19, including a fever, dry-cough and tiredness, please self-isolate and contact your local health authority (in PNG contact the Hotline on 1800200).
